The Nook is our crèche provision within the centre. It can be used by parents taking part in groups, accessing services or volunteering at Pen Green. Staff in the Nook offer children a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment in which they can play and learn.
The Nook runs a morning and afternoon session every weekday. The length of your child's session will depend on what groups or services you are accessing. In some circumstances, we can also offer families respite care.
At Pen Green, we believe that qualified staff help to improve the educational outcomes of every play experience. All staff in the Nook hold minimum level 3 early years qualification and many of them hold an early years degree.
We want the time the children have in the Nook to be special. We take care to ensure all children are introduced to the Nook sensitively. We ask that you visit with your child prior to leaving them for the first time. This gives both you and your child the opportunity to build a relationship with workers, and to share important information about your child such as how they like to be comforted when upset.
Each child will have a special carer called a Family Worker when they come into the Nook. We believe this will help your child feel comfortable and secure. This person will support your child throughout the session and will feedback to you as you collect your child.
Within the space are a range of age appropriate resources and materials for children from 12 weeks to 5 years. Children are often involved in messy play so please bring them suitably clothed. We also ask families to bring a spare set of clothes in a separate bag.
Within each session children are able to access healthy nutritious snacks at a cost of 50p.
Children in our Nook will also have access to other areas of the centre including the shared spaces.
For children feeling tired, we have a sleep area for them to rest.
We plan play experiences carefully with each child's interests in mind. Each child learns and develops at their own rate. We use photographs, videos and written observations to record your child's learning and experiences. Your child's time in the Nook is documented in their 'A Celebration of my Achievements' file. When your child leaves the Nook this will be yours to keep.
